We join the rest of rugby league in sending our deepest condolences to the family and friends of former Saint Adam Walker who has sadly passed away.
It is sad to report the passing of Adam Walker at the age of 31.
Adam joined Saints from Hull KR on a two-year contract for the start of the 2017 campaign and big things were expected from the Scottish International forward who had been attracting the attention of several top Super League clubs. At 6ft 3ins and over 17 stones, he was a formidable front-rower on his day, who could drive the ball in hard and was always aware of runners in support.
Unfortunately, things didn’t quite work out for Adam at St Helens and he joined Wakefield Trinity half way though his contract. He made 9 appearances in the red vee, all from the interchange bench, making his debut at home to Wakefield on 3rd March 2017, when he was joined by Kyle Amor, LMS and Zeb Taia. His last match was a 18-40 reversal at Warrington Wolves on 5th May that same year.
Adam represented Scotland at the 2017 World Cup in Australia, where he was joined by his brother Jonathan, then of Darlington Point Roosters. His Saints’ team-mate Luke Douglas was also in the squad, together with James Bell, from New Zealand Warriors. Scotland lost two and drew one of their matches [14-14 versus Samoa], with Tonga topping the group. Adam made 14 appearances overall for the Bravehearts from 2012-2019 and always wore the jersey with great pride.
Beginning his Super League odyssey at Huddersfield, Adam joined Hull KR, where he made 109 appearances in three seasons before joining St Helens and he also played against Saints in the 2019 Grand final for Salford Red Devils.
His passing was connected to anxiety and depression. All at St Helens RFC send their condolences to Adam’s family at this difficult time.
James Bell, then of New Zealand Warriors was also in the squad. Adam’s brother Jonathan , then of Darlington Point Roosters was another member of the club fended off several other Super League teams for the highly rated international who had played close to 150 games in the senior ranks. He was a hard-working forward, with a big engine and good footwork. Walker began his career at Huddersfield in 2010 before moving to Hull KR for the 2013 season. There he played close to 90 games – and won the club`s Young Player of the Year award. He had played 13 times for Scotland by the time he had joined the Saints.
After only a short spell at the Saints Adam returned to Yorkshire to play for Wakefield Trinity.
Sadly,Adam passed away in October 2022 at the age of just 31.
