A poor start from the saints, sporting our blue away kit, saw the game’s first points go to Steve Renouf with a breakaway try. More bad news followed for us as Paul Newlove got caught up in a tackle that saw him put into an unnatural position, and was stretchered off the field in the first five minutes, with Wigan still 6-0 up.
However, following the injury change and the introduction of Steve Hall, we settled into the game and started to show the champion class we had. Steve Hall went over first in the corner, with Sean Long converting from the touchline to draw us level.
a flurry of tries before the break, the pick of the bunch from Anthony Sullivan, led to us taking an 18-6 lead into halftime, and it only got better from there as we ran out to a big win away from home, on our run to the 2000 Grand Final.
