The last Saint to arrive in Australia, Konrad Hurrell talks about becoming a father for the first time before heading Down Under, and the task at hand for the team with two big games coming up.
Konrad and his partner Bec gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, Sonny Keti Hurrell on the 30th January, and the star centre shared his delight at welcoming his son into the world!
“I’m still buzzing about it and over the moon! I think this just has to be the best thing to ever happen to me having this little boy of mine, me and my partner, even better is that they’re both healthy too.
“It was a bit hard leaving them behind but I guess I got to do what I’ve got to do. I think this is a massive opportunity for myself to be a part of this great journey and hopefully make history for the club and take it back home.”
The chance to be crowned World Club Champions was too big an opportunity for the Tongan not to take. With many writing the Saints off already, Hurrell believes it presents a good challenge ahead of Super League 2023.
“We’re all looking forward to it, we’re training and the weather’s outstanding and the boys are hyped up, excited. It’s good to come here and play two of the best teams in the NRL and see where we’re at to start the year. It’s a good chance to prove ourselves again for another year, the five-peat, but we’re looking forward to hopefully taking that World Club trophy back to St Helens.”
It all makes for an incredible way to start off his second season as a Saint, and Konrad is targeting earning a third.
“I still remember last year and trying to fight for a position in the seventeen. I got my chance and I feel like it’s gone real quick. I think it was a great move for myself and getting to lift two trophies, so I was buzzing I got to sign another year here. I’m fighting for another contract for next year so hopefully, I will be better this year than last and keep fighting.”
