Up next: Leeds for our home opener

The World Club Champions are returning home on Friday night for our first home game of Betfred Super League 2023!

It has been a fantastic start to the 2023 season for St Helens with a hugely successful trip to Australia with a win over St George Illawarra Dragons, the history-making victory over Penrith Panthers to secure a third World Title, followed by getting the domestic campaign started with a victory away at Castleford Tigers last Sunday afternoon.

Now we’re excitedly racing towards this Friday night and welcoming Leeds Rhinos for the first home league match of 2023, and boy do we have an exciting show planned for the Saints supporters!

If you’ve not got your Membership Card or match ticket sorted for the game yet, find out how you can be there below.

A LOOK AT LEEDS…

The Rhinos are on the hunt for their first win of the Super League season, having lost heavily in the competition opener at Warrington 42-10, and narrowly missing out against Hull FC at home last Friday night.

Leeds have added Sam Lisone, Justin Sangare, and James McDonnell to their forward pack, along with Derrell Olpherts, Nene Macdonald, and Luke Hooley to their outside backs. With the halfback pairing of Aiden Sezer and Blake Austin looking to guide the team around the field.

LAST TIME VS LEEDS

Last year following the mid-season appointment of Head Coach Rohan Smith the Rhinos found better fortunes and made it all the way to the Grand Final at Old Trafford in what was our last meeting. The Saints secured a fourth straight Super League title, winning 24-12.

Saints have a strong recent record against Leeds, winning the last twelve meetings, with the Rhinos’ last win over St Helens coming back in March 2018.

SAINTS SUPER START IN SUPER LEAGUE

One week removed from becoming World Champs, Paul Wellens’ men put in a professional performance over a highly motivated Castleford Tigers side to win 2-26.
