St Helens Women's season opener against York Valkyrie will be shown live on The Sportsman on Sunday 16th April!
The 2023 Betfred Women’s Super League season was officially launched at Headingley today with confirmation of more broadcast coverage from TheSportsman.com.
It will start on Sunday April 16 when they show the mouthwatering meeting of two of the three trophy-winners from 2022, as the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup winners St Helens travel to the LNER Community Stadium to face York – who won the League Leaders’ Shield last season, and will be playing their first home fixture under their new nickname of Valkyrie.
The match, which kicks off at 1pm, will feature a host of stars of England’s World Cup campaign last autumn, as the York team including Hollie-Mae Dodd and the 2022 Woman of Steel Tara Jane Stanley take on a Saints side featuring Emily Rudge and Jodie Cunningham.
It will be the first match of the season for St Helens, while the Valkyrie will already have featured in the stand-alone season opener against 2022 BWSL champions Leeds Rhinos at Headingley, which is being shown live by Sky Sports on Easter Sunday, April 7.
The Sportsman are again showing a range of matches from different competitions in 2023 on their dedicated YouTube Rugby League channel, and their coverage has already proved a big hit in Betfred League One and the early rounds of the Betfred Challenge Cup.
This Sunday (April 2) they will provide live, exclusive and free coverage of the Fourth Round tie between Liam Finn’s Dewsbury Rams, currently flying high in League One with a 100% start to the season, and John Kear’s Widnes Vikings.
