Wellens names 21-man squad for Catalans trip

Head Coach Paul Wellens has named his 21-man squad for this Friday’s Betfred Super League match against Catalans Dragons, which kicks off at 7:45pm in the UK and 8:45pm local time in France.

Following the international break the Saints are back in match action and looking to build on an impressive and convincing 28-6 home victory over the league-leading Warrington Wolves a fortnight ago. With a large number of the forward pack missing, St Helens put in a strong performance to put the Wire to the sword.

The Red V have received boosts to the squad for this upcoming Round 11 fixture with the returns of prop forward Alex Walmsley, back-rower Curtis Sironen, and young loose forward Jake Wingfield who could all return from injury if selected in the matchday team.

Mark Percival steps out of the squad and Wellens has revealed that the centre will likely miss four to five weeks due to a hamstring issue and a small clear-out on his knee.

Lewis Baxter and Wesley Bruines retain their places in the 21-man declaration and were both on the bench for the win over Warrington. Whilst neither featured in the last round of Super League action, both impressed last Saturday in the Saints Reserves’ victory over Castleford Tigers, with Bruines bagging his second hat-trick of the Reserves season so far.

The Dragons are always a tough challenge on their own patch and they will be eager to stop their current run of three losses in a row and get a result over the current Super League and World Club Champions.

Over a thousand of the Saints faithful are making the trip to the south of France to cheer on the team in what should be a thrilling Friday night feast of rugby league in Perpignan!
