We have three matches across the weekend to look forward to this week! Our First Team and Women are in Challenge Cup action, whilst our Academy host Hull KR.
The Red V begin the weekend on Friday night in Halifax as the Betfred Challenge Cup Sixth Round commences.
We have double the action at our home ground across Saturday and Sunday at the Totally Wicked Stadium, first up will be the Academy on Saturday afternoon and then our Women have a local derby against Warrington Wolves!
Further details of the three games can be found below.
First Team– vs Halifax Panthers (A)
The Sixth Round of the men’s Betfred Challenge Cup sees the top-flight sides enter the competition and brings up some intriguing encounters such as the Saints taking on Championship side Halifax Panthers!
In fact the last time the Red V and Fax faced off was back in 2019 in Bolton in the semi-final, when a stubborn Halifax side pushed St Helens but fell to a 26-2 defeat as we progressed to go to Wembley.
Simon Grix’s Panthers have done very well in their Cup run in 2023, beating Featherstone away before besting Barrow and Bradford at home to earn their spot in Round 6. In the league Fax are well in the fight for play-off rugby come the end of the year, with 7 wins and 4 losses their record so far.
Paul Wellens will be keen to see his side build consistency with a result over in West Yorkshire and progress into the Cup quarter-finals on the back of a good win over Salford Red Devils last Saturday.
- Friday, 19th May 2023

- The Shay Stadium, HX1 2YS

Academy – vs Hull KR (H)
Fives wins from the first five games in the Under 18’s Academy Championship for our Saints, and the biggest of the lot came last time out away at Newcastle Thunder. A demolition of the Tyneside team saw the Red V record a mammoth 4-110 victory.
On Saturday we’re on the hunt for win six against Hull KR who won their first game of the season last time out against Huddersfield Giants.
See how our young guns get on against the Robins!

Women – vs Warrington Wolves (H)
The final group stage game of the Women’s Betfred Super League sees our Saints take on Warrington Wolves.
On the back of a big win over Castleford, and three victories in the Nines Competition last week to qualify for Finals Day next month, our Saints are in good spirits and will look to put their best foot forward against local neighbours Warrington Wolves.
The Wolves Women joined Women’s Super League Group 1 this year after strong performances in Group 2 earned them the promotion in 2022. They will be eager to test themselves against the current Challenge Cup holders and see where they are as a Group 1 side ahead of the league action returning.
