This week for the Saints

It is Saints versus Wolves week! Three of our St. Helens sides are taking on local neighbours Warrington this coming weekend!

Our triple dose of Red V action begins on Friday night with the First Team taking on the Wire in Betfred Super League.

On Saturday afternoon, Derek Hardman’s Reserves go to Victoria Park, and closing out the week on Sunday is Matty Smith’s Women at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Find out all the key details for each game below.

First Team vs Warrington Wolves (A)

After returning to winning ways on Friday night, the Saints make the trip to the Halliwell Jones Stadium for Friday night Betfred Super League action against the Wire.

The Red V have seven of their last eight matches in the league and Cup, and Paul Wellens’ men can leapfrog in the league table with a victory.

Meanwhile, the Wolves will be licking their wounds after suffering three straight defeats, the latest of which was a home loss to Leeds last Thursday. So the hosts will be fired up, looking to get one over one of their nearest and dearest and improve their recent form.

Over 2,000 of the Saints faithful already travelling over for the game!

  • Friday, 7th July
  • Kick off 8pm
  • Halliwell Jones Stadium, WA2 7NE

Reserves vs Warrington Wolves (A)

After a dramatic victory away at Hull FC a fortnight ago, Derek Hardman’s Reserves have a local away day to keep their good form in 2023 going. Currently sat in second place in the table with four games to go, a tough task is at hand against a game Wire side.

Daniel Moss was the hero last time out against the Black & Whites, slotting over a game winning drop goal, 32-33.

  • Saturday, 8th July
  • Kick off 12pm
  • Victoria Park, WA4 1DQ
  • Entry is £5 for adults or £2 for juniors/concessions

Women vs Warrington Wolves (A)

Round 5 of the Betfred Women’s Super League sees the Saints take on Warrington Wolves for a third time already this season, but the previous two meetings came in the Challenge Cup, firstly the group stage and then the quarter-final.

After cruising past Huddersfield Giants this past Sunday 66-0, Matty Smith’s charges have a three match winning run in the league. More impressive though is that the Red V Women have not lost a regular match since April across the Cup and league.

St. Helens Women also reached the semi-finals of the Nines Competition a fortnight ago.

With the semi-final and home league meeting against York Valkyrie to come later in July, this match against the Wire will be viewed as a marker to build form into those two hugely important fixtures.

  • Sunday, 9th July
  • Kick off 2pm
  • Halliwell Jones Stadium, WA2 7NE
  • Tickets will be available on the gate
