St.Helens’ squad for the Betfred Super League Semi-Final against Catalans Dragons has been named by Paul Wellens. The game takes place at the Stade Gilbert Brutus on Friday, with kick-off scheduled for 8pm (UK) / 9pm (France).
A spot in the Grand Final awaits the winners of Friday night’s fixture, with the Saints determined to make it five successive appearances in a row at the competition’s biggest stage. It would also be a fitting end for legendary figures James Roby and Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook, as both call time on their storied careers come the end of the 2023 season.
Standing in the way of the Red V are the Catalans Dragons, who by points difference edged into second place over St.Helens who finished third but on the same league points in the regular season. That has given the French side an advantage, not only a home Semi-Final, but an important week off too at the business end of the season.
Meanwhile, the Saints men battled against Warrington Wolves in wet conditions on Saturday afternoon to earn their spot in the final four and set up this mouth-watering encounter between two of Super League’s best.
Head Coach Paul Wellens makes two changes to his squad that got the Eliminator Play-Off win over the Wolves, with Joe Batchelor missing due to a hamstring injury picked up early in Saturday’s match. Dan Norman is the other player to step out of the selection. Young forwards Matthew Foster and George Delaney come into the 21-man side.
