Three Saints named for England’s second Tonga test

Jack Welsby will remain captain for England's second match in the historic three-game Test Series against Tonga, with the second match set to take place at Huddersfield's John Smiths Stadium at 2:30pm this Saturday, 28th October.

Last Sunday, St.Helens hosted the first Test meeting between the two nations in what was truly an afternoon to remember!

Saints’ full-back Welsby led out the Three Lions for the first time in his career, becoming the youngest ever England captain in the process. ‘Super Jack’ also provided the game-breaking play, an incredible hit-out pass to winger Tom Johnstone for a try.

Shaun Wane has named his squad for Saturday’s match with Welsby named and staying as captain with George Williams missing this upcoming match due to serving his two-match suspension. The Red V’s new signing Daryl Clark started at hooker for England, he remains in the squad, as does prop forward Matty Lees who notched up a match-high 39 tackles in last Sunday’s Test in just 41 minutes played – he also did not miss a single tackle either.

Tommy Makinson and Morgan Knowles ruled out due to wrist and thumb injuries respectively, picked up in the 22-18 victory over Mate Ma’a Tonga. Knowles has unfortunately been ruled out for the remainder of the series, and the Club wishes him a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him report in for pre-season.

Warrington’s Matty Ashton and Ben Currie replace Makinson and Knowles in Wane’s squad which you can see in full below.
