In the latest Episode of Sit Down With Saints, we welcomed Matt Whitley to the show for his first full interview since joining the Club!
Matt joined the Saints ahead of the 2024 season on a two-year contract from the Catalans Dragons, but his association with the Club started several years before. Firstly as a season ticket holder, and then a player signed to the St.Helens R.F.C. Scholarship pathway and in our Club’s service area.
Stuart Pyke took Matt on a trip down memory lane as he looked back at his time in the scholarship and being a boyhood fan of the club, how much of an impact being told he was no longer needed at the Club had on him, and how it pushed him to improve and become the player he is today.
Coming out on the losing side in the 2021 & 2023 Grand Final is something he is hoping to put right with his hometown club, and says he still hasn’t gotten over the 2021 game and spoke to Sione Mata’utia about it the first time he came into training.
