Round Three of Betfred Super League 2024 will see Leigh Leopards come to our house, as Paul Wellens’ men look to maintain the winning start to the new season with three wins in a row after Saturday’s impressive away day at Huddersfield.
It is the first matches in 2024 for our Women’s team and our Academy on Saturday too. Matty Smith’s Women are heading to Huddersfield themselves, whilst Derek Traynor’s young guns in the Under 18s are hosting Bradford Bulls at Thatto Heath.

FRIDAY
First Team vs Leigh Leopards (H)
Last year’s Challenge Cup winners are coming to the home of the Saints this Friday night!
Leigh lost their first game of the 2024 season at home to Huddersfield in a tight tussle, but a week off due to Wigan’s involvement in the World Club Challenge has given them time to work hard ahead of this match in a bid to get off the mark in their campaign this season.
After being one of the stories of the year in 2023 following their return to Super League and win at Wembley, the Leopards will be keen to show all it was not a flash in the pan and they are here to push at the top of the table.
The encounters between Saints and Leigh last season were physical affairs, a prime example was demonstrated last September in our Heritage Celebration fixture which was won by Paul Wellens’ men 22-12.

SATURDAY
Academy vs Bradford Bulls (H)
Our Under 18s are in match action for the first time in 2024 this weekend!
The 2023 Academy Champions head into 2024 with a firm target on their backs after topping the league table and then winning the Academy Grand Final to secure the youth title. Five of those players that were in the 2023 Under 18s side are now part of our First Team environment, and that’s the aim always – to develop players to become senior Saints.
Saturday’s match against Bradford Bulls is a pre-season friendly, with the Reserves and Academy seasons set to officially begin in the coming weeks.
The match will be played at local community club Thatto Heath Crusaders.

SUNDAY
Women vs Huddersfield Giants (A)
Matty Smith’s Saints Women head over the Pennines in preparation for the start of the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup and Women’s Super League which commence in the coming weeks!
Senior and Under 19’s players are expected to make up the squad for the first taste of action for our Women’s team on Saturday.
The Red V faced the Giants twice in 2023 in the league, with Smith’s side securing two impressive wins. Firstly the home match in July 66-0, followed by a very closely similar scoreline in August in the return away game in August 0-68.
