This week for the Saints

Four matches for St.Helens R.F.C. this week, two at home and two on the road!

Our Under 16s kick-off all the action this week mid-week, and Friday night offers our First Team the chance to right some wrongs and get back to winning ways. The weekend itself will see the Reserves at home, then on Sunday a huge match as our Women begin their league campaign for 2024.

See all the key information and more details for each match below…

WEDNESDAY

Scholarship vs Castleford Tigers (A)

Our Under 16s Scholars are on the hunt for their first win in 2024 after being edged out in their opening two matches of the season, firstly away at Wigan Warriors and then against Warrington Wolves at Blackbrook Royals.

Our youngest Saints side head over the Pennines to take on Castleford who have won a home fixture against local rivals Wakefield Trinity but have lost on the road to Leeds Rhinos too.

  • Wednesday, 17th April
  • Kick off 7pm
  • The Mend-A-Hose Jungle, WF10 2SD
  • Entry costs £5 per person

FRIDAY

First Team vs Hull FC (H)

The Saints had a disappointing afternoon last Sunday, but five days on there will be the opportunity to shake off the Challenge Cup exit and progress strongly with intent in Betfred Super League.

Saints and Hull met four times in 2023, twice at the Totally Wicked Stadium and the latest of which was back in September. The Red V won all but one of those meetings last season and will be looking to maintain a strong recent record of form against the Black & Whites.

Hull will be a challenging prospect after a number of changes that have been made due to their tough start to the 2024 campaign. Tony Smith has left as Head Coach, Simon Grix & Francis Cummins are in interim charge, players Tex Hoy and Nu Brown have exited the squad. Richie Myler is now Hull FC’s Director of Rugby. It’s been a busy week for the Airlie Birds, they will be looking for a positive result themselves too.

SATURDAY

Reserves vs Hull FC (H)

Derek Hardman’s Reserves Saints, like the First Team, take on Hull FC but on Saturday afternoon in Round Four of the Reserves Championship.

So far this year, the Red V have won two matches; firstly against Salford in convincing fashion, and then last time out against Wakefield Trinity a fortnight ago following a much improved second half display.

  • Saturday, 20th April
  • Kick off 1pm
  • Totally Wicked Stadium, WA9 3AL
  • Match entry prices: Adults – £5, Concessions – £3
  • FREE for 2024 Saints Members!

SUNDAY

Women vs York Valkyrie (A)

The Betfred Women’s Super League kicks off in a HUGE fashion as the history-making, three times in a row Challenge Cup winning St.Helens Women take on the reigning league champions York on the Valkyrie’s own turf.

Matches between these two titans of the Women’s game have never disappointed over the past couple of years, and this one serves not only as a massive statement of intent for the season, but also as a prelude to the Women’s Challenge Cup Semi-Final which will be played in the middle of May.

Matty Smith’s team have looked strong in the early days of the 2024 season booking their spot in the final four of the Cup with wins in the group stage over Warrington and London, before downing Huddersfield this past weekend in emphatic fashion in the Quarter-Final to keep our Cup defence going strong.

  • Sunday, 21st April
  • Kick off 12pm
  • LNER Community Stadium, YO32 9AF
  • Tickets are available with York: Adults – £20 – Concessions – £15 – Under 16s – Free
York are hosting a double-header with their Men’s side taking on Bradford Bulls after the Women’s game at 3pm
