This week for the Saints

Three of our St.Helens sides travel to West Yorkshire and the WF postcode for match action!

On Friday night the First Team go to The Jungle, the following afternoon our Academy are also there to face Castleford, meanwhile our Women’s side are just a few miles away in Featherstone.

See all the key information and more details for each match below…

FRIDAY

First Team vs Castleford Tigers (A)

For Paul Wellens’ side it’s back-to-back away trips following last Saturday’s loss to Hull KR. The Saints will be highly motivated to get the result and put in a more positive performance after the disappointment in the last round and to keep up pace in the top half of the table.

The Saints faced Castleford three times last season, winning all three meetings, two of which were at The Jungle and one at our home the Totally Wicked Stadium. We currently hold a four-match winning run in the head-to-head meetings with Castleford.

The Tigers are in the bottom end of the competition this season but have been going through stages of a re-build under Craig Lingard, with a number of players coming in and leaving, and in recent weeks they have shown a fighting spirit which will make them a tough challenge on Friday night at their ground.

SATURDAY

Academy vs Castleford Tigers (A)

Our Under 18s are set to return to the field for the first time since the middle of April after the postponement of the match against Huddersfield Giants on the 25th April.

Our developing young male players have two wins and one very narrow loss to their record in the Academy Championship season so far. Last time out the Saints Academy visited Warrington Wolves at Victoria Park and beat them 12-26, so Saturday afternoon offers the chance to have back-to-back wins if we get the result over the Tigers.

  • Saturday, 11th May 2024
  • Kick-off at 1pm
  • The Mend-A-Hose Jungle, WF10 2SD
  • Adults – £5, Under 16s – Free

Women vs Featherstone Rovers Women (A)

Matty Smith’s Saints are on the road again this Saturday in confident mood after three wins in the Group Stage of the Women’s Nines Festival on Sunday. Those wins came over Leeds Rhinos (6-11), Leamington Royals (0-51) and Telford Raiders (49-0) to come top of Group 2 and book our spot for Finals Day on Saturday, 27th July.

It’s back to league matters though for the Saints with the goal to get the second win in the Betfred Women’s Super League after dominating Huddersfield Giants by 60 points to 6 to close out April.

  • Saturday, 11th May
  • Kick-off at 2pm
  • The Millennium Stadium, Featherstone, WF7 5En
  • Adults – £5, Under 16s – £1
