Squad named for Saints’ trip to the Tigers

Head Coach Paul Wellens has announced his 21-man squad for this Friday’s away fixture at Castleford Tigers, which will be played at The Mend-A-Hose Jungle with kick-off scheduled for 8pm.

The match is part of Round 11 of Betfred Super League 2024, and the Saints are currently sitting in third as one of six sides level on points, separated only by points difference.

Our team will be highly motivated after an away defeat to Hull KR on Saturday afternoon knocked St.Helens off the top spot, and missed the chance to extend the lead from that position also. So there is the chance right a few wrongs and get an important away day result at a hostile opposition ground.

Over 500 of the Saints faithful have already secured their tickets to cheer on the team in the away end of The Jungle. Want to be in that travelling number? Full away day ticket details are available by clicking here.

The Tigers currently hold the tenth spot in the table but look to have more of a fighting spirit in recent weeks following some mid-season player movement with Tex Hoy, Louis Senior, and Corey Hall bolstering their outside backs. Last time out Castleford came from behind to level their away game at Leigh in the dying minutes, taking it to golden point, and denying the Leopards a win. Cas almost pinched the result themselves, however, they would after extra time settle for a well-earned draw, 28-28.

Onto the key squad news and St.Helens boss Paul Wellens makes two changes to the squad that was posted last week with Tommy Makinson back available after a case of chicken pox ruled him out for the Hull KR match. Sam Royle also returns for selection and could feature at the ground where in 2022 he proudly captained a young Saints side that featured seven debutants from our Academy system.

Morgan Knowles and Matt Whitley are the two men who step out of the squad for this match. Whitley was forced off the field last Saturday due to a shoulder injury he picked up during the game, and Coach Wellens confirmed he has been to see a specialist and is expected to be missing for at least a couple of weeks. Knowles had been stood down from training earlier this week due to a slight groin issue which is being monitored.
