A quick report on which of our St.Helens players have been out on dual-registration or loan this past weekend (18th & 19th May).
Seven of our Saints were on duty for other clubs on the weekend just gone, so here is your recap on what they got up to…
Wakefield Trinity 46-22 Swinton Lions
Tee Ritson, Jake Burns, Jonny Vaughan, and Ben Davies
Four St.Helens men linked up with our Dual-Registration partners Swinton who travelled to high-flying Wakefield, who currently sit top of the Betfred Championship and booked their spot in the 1895 Cup Final at Wembley in the previous weekend.
Ritson kept his spot on the right wing, Burns stepped up a division following his recent loan spells with North Wales Crusaders in League One to start at hooker. Vaughan made a slight switch from centre position to the back-row, whilst Davies for the first time this year was part of the Swinton matchday lineup, starting at loose forward.
It was valuable match minutes for all four, Tee had a solid afternoon on the edge helping to create two of the Lions’ scores.
The result did not reflect a fantastic effort put up by Swinton, which only really blew away in the final ten minutes when the game was at 28-22 in favour of the hosts, but three late tries and two penalties ensured a comfortable win for Wakefield in one of their toughest battles of the season yet.
Widnes Vikings 28-28 Whitehaven
Brett Bailey
Continuing his loan spell with Whitehaven, Bailey for a fifth match running featured for the Cumbrian team, coming off the interchanges bench against the visiting Vikings, who have begun 2024 in strong fashion.
Honours were shared at the DCBL Stadium in Widnes, it was a massive performance by Haven against much fancied opposition on their own turf.
North Wales Crusaders 10-30 Keighley Cougars
Ben Lane and Dayon Sambou
In Betfred League One, the Welsh Crusaders outfit hosted one of the division’s pacesetters in Keighley, who sit in second in the table only behind Oldham on points difference after this weekend.
Lane featured at fullback for North Wales, whilst speedster Sambou stepped into the centres for the Crusaders too.
The Cougars were in a real close battle up until close to the hour mark, leading 10-12 but they turned the corner and posted points to give them a decent victory.
