Saints squads named for Leeds Double Header

St.Helens First Team and Women’s team will face Leeds Rhinos on Friday evening as the Totally Wicked Stadium hosts a Double Header of match action. The Head Coaches Paul Wellens & Matty Smith have now confirmed their squads for the upcoming matches.

  • St.Helens Women vs Leeds Rhinos Women – Betfred Women’s Super League – Round 4 – 5:30pm KO
  • St.Helens vs Leeds Rhinos – Betfred Super League – Round 12 – 8pm KO

The Club encourages supporters to arrive at our home ground early to cheer on our Women’s side who booked their spot at Wembley Stadium in the Challenge Cup Final this past weekend! Friday night offers up a chance to take a closer look at the Red V’s opposition on the big stage on Saturday, 8th June as the Rhinos Women also won their Semi-Final to go to the national stadium.

Our First Team has had a week off and will be looking to keep the momentum rolling after a remarkable 4-60 away win over Castleford Tigers last time out. The Saints were reduced to twelve men early in the match but rallied round and then put on a dominant performance in the second half to score 52 unanswered points.

Paul Wellens makes two changes to the squad that was last posted for the win over the Tigers.

With Jake Wingfield now confirmed to be missing around 16 weeks of action due to shoulder surgery, and Tee Ritson is the other change from the previous declaration.

Stepping into the 21 then, it is fantastic to see Agnatius Paasi being named for the first time in the 2024 season!

The Tongan prop suffered horrific ankle, MCL, and ACL injuries last year in the Challenge Cup Semi-Final which ended his campaign in 2023, but 10 months on and having featured for our Reserves in a win over Castleford this past weekend – ‘Iggy’ could make his Super League return!

Academy product Jonny Vaughan is also named in the 21-man squad for the first time since joining the First Team for this season. Last year’s England Academy captain was part of the Academy Champion Saints side in 2023, and he has been impressing while on dual-registration with Swinton Lions in recent weeks.

A reminder that this fixture will kick off at 5:30pm, so get down to the ground early to not miss any of the game.

The match will also broadcast live on Sky Sports, the first Women’s Super League fixture to be shown live on the platform in 2024!
