Dual-Registration & Loan Recap

A quick report on which of our St.Helens players have been out on dual-registration or loan this past weekend (15th & 16th June).

Five of our Saints were on duty for other clubs on the weekend just gone, so here is your recap on what they got up to…

North Wales Crusaders 34-32 Workington Town – Ben Lane

Lane proved to be vital to the Welsh side’s sensational, late comeback win over the Cumbrian outfit in Betfred League One.

In the first half the visitors took an early 4-14 lead, but Crusaders got back to level terms just before the half time hooter. With under less than five minutes to go, the hosts were trailing 22-32, two late tries managed to get North Wales level once more, and Ben added the two late conversions, the last of which ensured a victory and took his tally for the day to four two-pointers scored!

Swinton Lions 16-20 Batley Bulldogs – Tee Ritson, Will Roberts, Leon Cowen & Ciaran Nolan

Dual registration partners Swinton had four Saints lineup for them against Batley. Ritson started on the right wing, Roberts continues his work back from an ACL injury suffered at Swinton on loan last year started in the halves alongside Dec Patton, and Cowen began the game at prop.

Saints Reserves player and Academy product Nolan rotated with former Saint Josh Eaves off the bench at the hooker spot. It was great experience for the youngster on his first appearance for the Lions.

Swinton just before the half hour mark had a 16-4 lead, but ahead of the break the Bulldogs clawed a score back to go into the sheds 16-10 down. The second half was a low scoring affair but just enough for the Yorkshire visitors who grabbed two tries.

Roberts showed a lot of danger with his runs and some line breaks, Cowen fronted up well against some sizeable and experienced men in the Batley front row. Ritson almost managed to steal the win late on as well, a kick return and break from his inside centre saw Tee sprint in support and if the pass landed he would have been clear, however the Bulldogs fullback knocked it on to stop the threat.
