Wellens names Saints squad for visit to Salford

Head Coach of St.Helens R.F.C.’s First Team Paul Wellens has confirmed his 21-man squad for this Sunday’s Betfred Super League match at Salford Community Stadium against Salford Red Devils, which kicks off at 3pm.

We are now past the halfway point of the regular season and the Red V are top of the table after fourteen rounds of action by points difference, and the race for the play-off spots is tight too, so every result is of the most importance.

Our hosts on Sunday sit in fifth place heading into this week’s games just four points behind St.Helens. Salford go into this match on the back of two wins, a dogged home result over London Broncos, then an impressive performance last week away at Challenge Cup Finalists Warrington Wolves.

Following last week’s victory over London at Twickenham Stoop, the Saints are on a four-match winning run and will head to the home of the Red Devils eager to extend that to five ahead of the international break next week. Furthermore, St.Helens will be out to get one back over Salford after their narrow win at the Totally Wicked Stadium in March which was their first win in St.Helens in 44 years.

A big number of our fans are hitting the road again on Sunday to cheer us on! Over 1,000 Saints supporters will be in the North Stand at Salford Community Stadium! The full away day ticketing details can be found by clicking here!

The Saints’ boss Wellens makes just one change to the squad that recorded a dominant 6-52 win over London.

Tommy Makinson steps out of the team due to a plantar fascia (foot) injury that is expected to keep him out for around four to six weeks. Fellow winger Tee Ritson steps back into the 21-man squad having served Swinton Lions on dual-registration in recent weeks.

Saints Academy talent Harry Robertson retains his spot in the 21-man squad for the second week running and if selected to play on Sunday would make his senior Super League debut. As would hooker Jake Burns who has been on loan at North Wales Crusaders or on dual-registration with Swinton Lion in recent weeks. It would be the same debut scenario for St.Helens 2023 Academy Champion and England Academy Captain Jonny Vaughan if chosen by Wellens to play at Salford on Sunday – he too has been getting game time with the Lions.
