Saints to host Women’s double header for the first time

On Wednesday 31st July 2024, we will be hosting a Women's double header for the first time at the Totally Wicked Stadium!

  • Saints Women Academy vs Wigan Warriors, 5:15pm KO, Totally Wicked Stadium
  • Saints Women vs York Valkyrie, 7:30pm KO, Totally Wicked Stadium

Saints Women will host York Valkyrie at 7:30pm in a rematch of the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup Semi-Final, which Saints won 32-2 in Doncaster to make it back to Wembley.

Matty Smith’s side will be looking for a better result in the league though. Despite a strong second 40 minutes in York earlier on in the season, Saints suffered a 20-16 defeat to the Valkyrie, their only loss so far in 2024.

Prior to that fixture, our Saints Academy will face local rivals Wigan Warriors at 5:15pm. The young Saints beat the Cherry and Whites 0-10 earlier on in the year at Wigan St Jude’s, their first ever victory in the derby.

Tickets for the double header are on sale now, with fans getting two games for the price of one at the end of the month. You can purchase them online here

Tickets will also be available on the gate:

  • £5 Adults
  • £3 Concessions
  • £2 Juniors

Please be aware, it will be card only on the turnstiles.

As always, 2024 members will get free access to both games at the Totally Wicked Stadium.

We will also have the non-playing players from our Saints Women’s side in the concourse pre-game with the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup trophy. Its a great opportunity for the players to get involved with the community, so make sure to get involved!

Head of Women’s Pathways & Performance Jodie Cunningham said: “It’s really exciting as a club to be able to announce our first all Women’s double header.

“Two of the best academy sides on show alongside two of the best Women’s Super League sides. It will be a fantastic evening of rugby league and one not to miss.”

Saints Women’s Head Coach Matty Smith added: “To be able to host our first ever women’s double header at the Totally Wicked Stadium is a big moment for our club.

“Its a big chance for the young girls to play at our home ground and with it being a derby game as well that just adds to the occasion.

“Its obviously a big game for ourselves as well. We know that we will have to be at our best if we want to beat York on our home ground. They came to the Totally Wicked Stadium and got the two points last year so we want to make sure we get the win this time around!”

Saints Women’s Academy Head Coach Tom McBride commented: “Its a brilliant opportunity for the girls to be part of the occasion and the first women’s double header at the Totally Wicked Stadium.

“This shows the continual growth of the game and everyone involved at our academy is excited about the opportunity to showcase their talent.

“It would be great to see fans get in early to get behind some potential Saints stars of the future, as most of them play their first ever game at their home ground.”
