Wellens’ Saints squad heading to Hull FC

St.Helens Head Coach Paul Wellens has named his 21-man squad for this Saturday's away fixture against Hull FC, which takes place at the MKM Stadium and kicks off at 3pm.

The Saints are looking to stop the run of recent form and get back to winning ways, especially after a bad night on the road at Leigh Leopards last Friday night which saw the team make unwanted history, suffering five league defeats in a row for the first time in the Super League era of the sport.

Continuing to do it tough on the injury front, St.Helens have some young players cutting their teeth and earning valuable senior match minutes. Still sat inside the top six of the Betfred Super League table, the Red V will be fighting to stay in the play-offs hunt, kick on and move back upwards in the standings.

Our hosts on Saturday Hull FC have shown a lot of spirit in recent weeks in what has been a tough season for the Black & Whites. In their last home fixture they secured only their third win of the 2024 campaign, but it did come against the current Super League and World Club Champions – Wigan. On their own turf once more, they will be eager to keep on their improvements of recent weeks.

Paul Wellens has five changes to the squad he named for the last round of Betfred Super League action, with the headline news being that vice captain Morgan Knowles and fellow senior forward Joe Batchelor are back in the 21-man squad following injuries.

Our other incoming players for the team are hooker Jake Burns, winger Tee Ritson, and young half Will Roberts.

Jack Welsby is set to miss around eight weeks of action due to a hamstring injury picked up in the match against Leigh. Mark Percival received a one-match penalty notice and will not be available for selection, as will Saints captain Jonny Lomax who following a tribunal will miss three matches. George Delaney and Leon Cowen are the other two players who step out of the squad declaration.
