This week for the Saints

Three St.Helens sides are in action this week, two will take to the field at the Totally Wicked Stadium in home games!

Thursday night gets things started with the First Team taking on Salford Red Devils for the third time this season in Bettered Super League. Then on Saturday, at the same kick-off time but at different venues, the Saints Women and Reserves are also playing matches.

See the key information for all three matches below.

THURSDAY

First Team vs Salford Red Devils (H)

Paul Wellens’ men ended a losing run in style last Saturday, beating Hull FC at the MKM Stadium 6-46, with a couple of senior Saints returning to our depleted squad due to both injuries and suspensions.

The Saints and Salford have already met twice in 2024, with the Red Devils just edging a result by four points back in March for a famous win, their first at the home of St.Helens since 1980 – ending a 44-year wait. The Greater Manchester side then in June made more history with a first league double, also since 1980, their first of the Super League era.

With the play-off hunt tight in the league table, every result is vitally important and our Saints will be highly motivated to get one back over Salford and right a few wrongs. A win on Thursday for the Red V would push St.Helens back above the Red Devils, as we boast a better points difference.

  • Thursday, 8th August 2024
  • Kick-off at 8pm
  • Totally Wicked Stadium, WA9 3AL
  • Match tickets are available online at eticketing.co.uk/saintsrlfc

SATURDAY

Reserves vs Huddersfield Giants (A)

Derek Hardman’s young Saints return to the field with their last match a fortnight ago, losing out away to Leigh Leopards.

The Saints are sat on top of the Reserves League table with points difference advantage over Hull FC whoa are level on league points, but have played one more game than the Red V. Wigan, who are third, are just one league point behind St.Helens.

Saints will be looking to perform well to stay at the top, and build momentum with just two matches in the campaign remaining.

  • Saturday, 10th August
  • Kick-off at 12pm
  • Huddersfield YMCA RUFC, Laund Hill, HD3 3XF
  • Entry is £5 for Adults – £2 for Under 16s

Women vs Featherstone Rovers Women (H)

The big games keep coming for Saints Women after getting two wins in four days last week over York Valkyrie at home and Barrow Radiers Ladies last time out on Sunday up in Cumbria.

Matty Smiths’ Saints secured their eleventh straight win across all competitions against the Raiders, and the result over York was a very important one in the fight for the Betfred Women’s Super League top spot and the League Leader’s Shield. By beating York, the Red V moved themselves clear at top spot by two points with four games to go.

Featherstone are currently at the bottom of the league table and looking to earn their first league points in 2024, so they will be desperate to make a point at the home of the current league leaders. St.Helens have already got a win over Fev back in May, running in 58 to their 4 at the Millennium Stadium.
