Willowbrook Hospice’s successful Saints takeover

Members of staff from Willowbrook Hospice came to the Totally Wicked Stadium for a takeover night at our matchday against the Salford Red Devils, to raise funds and awareness for the local charity.

The dramatic on-field action saw the Saints secure an important 17-16 victory over Salford in Golden Point extra-time, but for this fixture Willowbrook Hospice were invited by the Club to highlight the great work they do.

Kindly gifting supporters in attendance Willowbrook Hospice branded; try cards, inflatable cheer sticks, car air fresheners and more. The Hospice’s mascot Brookie Bear even joined in the night of raising awareness, even having a small duel with our club mascot Boots in the middle of the pitch!

As part of their takeover, the Saints also gave the Hospice part of the match sponsorship, including being Programme Sponsors for the fixture – you can read that programme by clicking here.

Situated around the stadium members of Willowbrook’s staff were collecting donations from our supporters and we are thrilled to confirm that through our kind community, the charity was able to raise £1,378.30 on the night of their takeover!

Every penny to Willowbrook Hospice makes a difference as an independent charity that provides to our local community, specialist palliative care for patients with complex needs.

Since opening its doors in 1997, over 10,000 people have been kindly cared for in the best possible way, thanks to the Hospice. Their care is not charged but relies on significant fundraising efforts alongside a modest contribution from the NHS. Donations and their retail business charitable shops are vital to ensuring their outstanding level of care can continue to be provided.

Back in June, Head Coach Paul Wellens and Leadership, Culture & Performance Coach James Roby visited Willowbrook Hospice to present them with their official framed and signed charity partner shirts.

Ahead of the 2024 rugby league season, St.Helens R.F.C. were proud to announce that Willowbrook Hospice branding would feature on all our 2024 junior replica kits, as well as on our First Team players’ kits for the away fixture against Catalan Dragons.

This was also thanks to long-standing Club partners Totally Wicked who kindly chose to gift their sponsorship opportunity on junior kits, and our shirts worn to be worn in France to Willowbrook, thereby increasing their visibility and support within the community.
