🔻 SAINTS VS ROBINS IN SUPER LEAGUE

Our main event is a standout fixture in Round 23 of Super League, with the Saints welcoming the current league leaders to the Totally Wicked Stadium. Following Magic WKND Paul Wellens’ men are looking to bounce back from a derby day defeat to the reigning champions Wigan, and further consolidate their spot in the top six play-off positions.

Hull KR are enjoying one of their finest seasons in the summer era of rugby league and come to the home of the Saints on the back of a six-match winning run. They will be eager to keep that run rolling and grab a first away win in St Helens since 2013.

 📰 SQUAD NEWS

Paul Wellens makes three changes to the squad from the previous round with Saints Captain and half-back Jonny Lomax returning after serving a three-match penalty notice which he was issued at the end of July.

It is a welcome sight to have forward Sione Mata’utia back available for selection, our #11 suffered a neck injury which has meant he has not been able to play since June. Head Coach Wellens confirmed on his press conference ahead of this upcoming match that should Mata’utia come through all his fitness checks well this week, he might return to the field.

Saints Academy half George Whitby is named in a St.Helens’ First Team 21-man squad declaration for the very first time, becoming the latest young player coming through our ranks to do so in the 2024 season.

Whitby joined the Saints Scholarship programme from local community club Blackbrook Royals aged 14, developing in two years to become an Academy Saint. In our Under 18s, George played his part in the 2023 Academy Championship victory, and this year has led our youth team as Captain. With one match left to go in the regular Academy season, Saints are at the top of the table too.

As part of his progression over the last two years, Whitby has also featured for our Reserves side and boasts an impressive point tally as a goal kicker for both Saints sides.

Representative honours have also come for George, as back in July he was chosen by Paul Anderson to be the England Academy Captain for their mid-season international against France.

The 18-year-old last week did fantastic with his A-Levels results and now, after stepping up into the First Team training environment from the start of the summer, George could be in line to make his elite Saints and Super League debut.
