Kyle Feldt to become a Saint

St.Helens R.F.C. is excited to announce the signing of prolific winger Kyle Feldt who will join the Club from NRL club North Queensland Cowboys from the 2025 season on a two-year deal!

The record try scoring winger has been a one-club man having made his debut with the Cowboys in 2013 where he has played all his senior club rugby.

To date Feldt has played 213 times for North Queensland, scoring 146 tries, kicking 44 goals, for a total points record of 672 for the NRL side so far.

During the 2024 season, Feldt has become the Cowboys’ record try scorer too, with 18 four-pointers to his name so far in this current campaign. Over the last nine seasons, he has also achieved double digits for his scoring efforts, with a career-best year in 2020 getting 19 tries.

Feldt’s most famous moment came in the 2015 NRL Grand Final as the man who scored the vital try for North Queensland after the full-time siren had gone to level the game against Brisbane Broncos. The Cowboys went on to win that match and secure their first NRL Premiership, in one of the all-time great finals.

Representative honours have also come for Feldt, with selection in 2019 for both the successful Australia 9s team and the Prime Minister’s XIII side. Furthermore, in 2021 he made his State of Origin debut for Queensland.

The six-foot-three tall wingman will embark on a new challenge in the Betfred Super League in 2025 with the Saints and adds plenty of pace and finishing power to Paul Wellens’ outside backline.

Kyle Feldt is ecstatic to join St.Helens and told saintsrlfc.com: “I can’t wait, it’s a big change for me and my family and as soon as we caught wind that St.Helens wanted me to come over and join, and after talking to Wello [Head Coach – Paul Wellens] and Rushy [CEO – Mike Rush], it’s set in that we’ve made the right decision and we picked the right club.

“This feels like the right choice and the right decision, not only for me but for my family. I know I’m coming to a great club with a very rich history of great players with great a work ethic as well. I’m eager to get over and meet the lads at the end of the year!”

Over a twelve-season career so far, and being born and raised in Townsville – the home of the Cowboys – Feldt will now come across to the other side of the world for an exciting new chapter. However, he is looking to end his time in North Queensland strongly first.

“It’s been my home all my life and I want to finish on a high. Playing in the finals this year is something that we’ve wanted to do and it would be good to finish the year strong, not only as a team but on a personal note as well.

“I’m excited to experience the UK fans, I know they really get right behind you, chant and sing songs when you’re going well. I’ve been a one-club man for so long and always want to give back to the fans and community I live in, and I’ve heard St. Helens is a close-knit community so I think I will fit in well.”

Steadfast on his ambition, Kyle confirmed his desire to lift trophies matched the Saints’ ambition and expectation to do so, making for a perfect match.

“I’m coming over to add some more accolades to my career, to help out the boys in the Club, and I’m very eager to get silverware. When I was on the phone to Wello he reaffirmed how the Club has an expectation of winning, and that’s something that got me across the line.”

Head Coach Paul Wellens commented on the signing of Feldt and said: “We are always looking to add quality to our squad and in Kyle we feel we have got exactly that, an experienced and very good player who no doubt will improve us as a team. So, I am very excited to have him as part of our squad for 2025.

“Losing a top player with experience like Tommy [Makinson], who knows what it’s like to compete in big games, you have to look for someone with the same qualities. Kyle is exactly that, as an experienced player, a great ball carrier, a wonderful finisher, and he can kick goals too. He will add a lot to St.Helens.”

2024 has seen the St.Helens give opportunities to some of our younger players, and Wellens insists that men such as Feldt will be important to our young Saints’ development to become more senior rugby league players for our club.

“You look for players who will perform well and will add to our group, after having discussions with Kyle I know that another part of his role will be working alongside our younger outside backs, helping them develop and Kyle’s comfortable doing that type of work, whilst coming to perform at his best and help the team be successful.”
