After finishing top of the table in the 2024 Reserves Championship at the end of the regular season, the Saints have earned a home Reserves Grand Final against Wigan Warriors!
The exciting culmination of the Reserves season will take place on Sunday, 8th September at the Totally Wicked Stadium with kick-off scheduled for 2:30pm.
Derek Hardman’s young Saints have deservedly finished in first place with nine victories from the twelve round season boasting an impressive points difference too of 234. One league point below in second place were our local foes Wigan who had eight wins and one draw in their campaign.
The Warriors are current Reserves Champions from the previous two seasons following the resumption of the competition in 2022 and following the Covid pandemic. Saints fell short in the Grand Final at Robin Park last year in wet conditions, and will be looking to finish this Reserves year on a high with silverware.
So, The Derby will determine who is the Reserves Champions, and with a home advantage we need our supporters out in force to back our young men and cheer them on!

đź“– THE SAINTS RESERVES STORY SO FAR IN 2024…
Derek Hardman’s St.Helens Reserves began the season in style back in March at Crusader Park in Thatto Heath, beating Salford Red Devils by 64-16 to go top of the table in the very first round of action. Another home game followed but not at the traditional home of the Saints, it was played at Ruskin Drive and a tight contest was edged by Leeds Rhinos, 22-30, for our first loss of the year.
April saw two more close contests, both were physical and bruising encounters; firstly against Wakefield Trinity in the Reserves first match of the campaign at the Totally Wicked Stadium, and a better second half performance secured a 28-16 win. Hull FC then came to town and whilst it was not a high scoring contest, the intent and physicality on show was impressive from both and Saints got the win 18-16.
Only one match was played in May and it was an away day to The Mend-A-Hose Jungle against Castleford. The day was a memorable one as it marked the return to the field for the first time in ten months for Agnatius Paasi with a whole host of First Team teammates travelling over to cheer him on. The Tigers almost nicked the win, but Hardman’s troops after coming from 12-0 down held on for a 20-24 result.
The busiest month of the Reserves season was June with three matches and first up; a dominant 68-12 home win at Thatto Heath against Bradford Bulls. On Father’s Day down in the capital the Saints Reserves went to Twickenham Stoop and beat London Broncos 6-66, with the likes of Harry Robertson and George Whitby catching the eyes of supporters ahead of making their First Team debuts. June closed with a narrow two-point away loss to Warrington Wolves 36-34, only the Saints’ second loss of the year to that point.
Shaking off that defeat, in July St.Helens put in one of the best performances of the year at Wigan Rugby Union against the Warriors, earning a huge 10-50 away day victory on our old enemy’s patch. However, our third loss of the season followed away against Leigh Leopards 26-16.
Sat at the top of the table, August’s matches would be highly important with the aim to get not only to the Grand Final, but make it a home one too. A trip to West Yorkshire was a good one to bounce back and return to winning ways besting Huddersfield Giants 8-34. The final regular season round was a home game against Hull KR, and it was a back and forth contest but three second half tries and a 36-32 scoreline in our favour ensured a first-place finish for the Red V and booked our route to the Reserves Grand Final!
