Morgan Knowles awarded Testimonial year in 2025

St.Helens R.F.C. is thrilled to confirm that Morgan Knowles has been awarded a Testimonial year for 2025 by The RFL following ten seasons with the Club!

Proud Cumbrian Morgan Knowles first joined the Saints as a 14-year-old with our Scholarship programme, and would show even then his remarkable commitment to being a rugby league player by travelling down from Barrow Island to St Helens to attend training sessions. He would progress into and through our Academy, and made his Saints First Team debut in 2015 in a Challenge Cup fixture against York.

2016 was a breakthrough season for ‘Morgs’, making 24 appearances in the year and establishing himself as one of the very best young players in Super League to watch. Showcasing his ability to play anywhere in the forward pack, international honours followed in 2017 with Wales in the Rugby League World Cup, whilst for the Club; Knowles established himself as a mainstay of our team.

During the Saints’ dominant period Super League title wins from 2019 to 2022, Morgan was an integral part of those successes – evidenced by his four consecutive inclusions in the Super League Dream Team at loose forward in those years. Knowles also made his England senior debut in 2021 and would feature for the national side at the delayed 2021 Rugby League World Cup in the autumn of 2022.

Adding to his trophy triumphs Knowles has won; three League Leader’s Shields, the 2021 Challenge Cup victory at Wembley, and arguably the Saints’ most famous victory which came over Penrith Panthers in their own backyard for the 2023 World Club Challenge.

To his name, Morgan Knowles has played 214 times for St.Helens, scoring 29 tries for a total of 116 points so far.

On being granted his Testimonial, Morgan Knowles said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have been at Saints for over ten years in the First Team and be granted a Testimonial year in 2025. I’ve felt extremely lucky and privileged to have had such success at a terrific club like St.Helens.

“From coming through the ranks at Scholarship and the Academy I have developed as both a player and a person, and the Club has been such a huge part of my life. I would like to say thank you to everyone at the Club, and I’m really excited for the year ahead.”

CEO of St.Helens R.F.C. Mike Rush commented on Knowles being awarded a Testimonial saying: “From day one, Morgan has come through our doors and been remarkable with his efforts on and off the field for the Club.

“He is a player who lifts those around him, leading from the front, and I believe he is one of the very best loose forwards in world rugby league.

“He might be a Cumbrian native, but St Helens is home to Morgan, and he has so often over the years played his part in our community, and continues to be a big supporter of the Saints Community Development Foundation and other charities in the region. We all wish him well with his Testimonial Year ahead, and I’m sure our fans will support it wholeheartedly.”
