Academy top table for a third successive season

Our Under 18s victory over Wakefield Trinity on Saturday, 31st August 2024, our eleventh win of the twelve-match campaign, ensured St.Helens finished top of the league by two points with a very healthy points difference.

Losing only one match all year to this point, our young Red V side will now host a Semi-Final against Hull FC in a bid to host an Academy Grand Final for the third time in three years, and aim to make it back-to-back title wins to become Academy Champions in 2024.

A number of our Academy players have also been featuring in the Reserves too, and we are thrilled to have finished top of the regular Reserves season this year too to earn a home Reserves Grand Final against Wigan Warriors, which takes place this Sunday!

Showing remarkable consistency to earn a first-placed finish for three years Derek Traynor, the Saints Academy’s Head Coach, wished to express on behalf of the Club our thanks to everyone involved in our youth development programmes.

“The aim will be to finish this season well with our Academy now into the semi-finals, but it would not be right to not say thank you to everyone who plays their part in getting our players here.

“Firstly, our local community clubs. The Club’s Magic Weekend kit this year was all about putting those local teams in the fabric of our Club, because it’s true. Our player’ journeys start learned at their community clubs, and continue it in our system.

“Our Scouting Staff, who spend hours upon hours every week, in all weathers, to seek out top talent from all corners of the country.

“All our performance staff, week in and week out work with our young men as we seek to make them better players on field, and people off it.

“And finally, all the parents, guardians and families of our players, whose support is always the most important to their children.”
