Following his side's 40-4 victory over Castleford Tigers in our final regular home match of the 2024 season, Head Coach Paul Wellens speaks to the press.
The Saints needed to get the job done to keep up the fight for the play-offs, and with a number of returning senior players playing their first match for a number of weeks, Wellens was pleased to get a strong result.
Although happy with the performance, the Red V boss believed we left a few points out on the field, and that we still need to be a little sharper in some areas as we go into do-or-die rugby.
Jon Bennison grabbed a career first hat-trick, and Wellens referred back to the winger’s frustration during the season at not being selected, and how i thas driven him to try be at his very best. So it was a just reward for his efforts to get those three tries.
Our departing players got their recognition by all in the Totally Wicked Stadium on the night, headlined by modern-day legend Tommy Makinson, with Wellens applauding his efforts after the match.
When asked about who helped get the players back to fitness, Wellens paid a thank you to his fellow coaching and medical staff for all their efforts during a difficult period.
