Matty Lees named in Super League Dream Team

The St.Helens forward has been named at prop in the Betfred Super League 2024 Dream Team selection!

Following the conclusion of the regular season, the annual ‘Best Of’ team selection has been confirmed, and it is fantastic recognition for the Saints’ #10 who has been a leading figure in our team throughout 2024.

Playing 25 times in the Red V during this season so far, he also started as England’s prop for the mid-season international against France.

A proud product of the Saints Academy, Lees’ efforts this season saw him named as stand-in captain during August by Head Coach Paul Wellens. To lead out St.Helens for a derby match against Wigan was a special honour for the 26-year-old.

In what has been a tough season on the injury front for the Saints, Lees has been putting in huge minutes in the middle of the field and continues to prove himself to be one of the very best in his position – recognised now by his inclusion in the Dream Team for the very first time.

Now that the regular season has come to a close, Lees and his fellow Saints are heading to Warrington on Saturday evening for an Eliminator Play-Off. The winning side will progress into the next round of the play-offs, whilst the losing team’s season will end. St.Helens will be fighting to get that win and continue a forward march towards the Grand Final at Old Trafford.

The 2024 Betfred Dream Team will be presented with their shirts by former Saints Paul Sculthorpe MBE, the two-time Man of Steel winner who was recently inducted into the Rugby League Hall of Fame, at a media event on Monday.

“I’ll be honoured to present the players with their Dream Team jerseys,” said Sculthorpe. “It’s a reflection of outstanding form all through the Super League season, and it’s great to see that recognised. We’re lucky to be able to watch these guys week in week out, and now going into the Play-Offs.”
