Following our victory over the Wigan Warriors in the WSL Semi-Final at the Totally Wicked Stadium, Matty Smith and Emily Rudge spoke to the press about the game.
Matty spoke about the resilience and consistency of the squad as we were put under some pressure by the Warriors in the first half. He said that we didn’t get everything right in the first half and will have some things to learn through the next couple of weeks, but the character shown to come out in the second half and perform they way we did stands us in good stead for the next couple of weeks.
On the game, Emily paid a lot of credit to the Warriors, and the way they’ve improved over the season, and said that those are the games we want to be involved in, games that are difficult and push us to be better. She went on to say that she felt the team performed well, and stepped up when needed.
With us being confirmed to be playing against York in the final, both Matty and Emily were asked about the opening game of the season, as York came out on top in our only defeat this year. Emily spoke about the growth of our team this year and how long ago that game feels now, with us having improved week on week through the season, and Matty said we know what’s in front of us, and we know we’ll have to perform against them to get the result both sides are chasing.
The game will be played at our home, the Totally Wicked Stadium, and Emily thanked the fans for all their support during the game saying the lift they give is second to none, and went on to say she hopes we can get more in for the final to back the girls home to a historic second treble.
