The Saints head to the home of the Wolves for a big Betfred Super League Play-Offs clash, and to the victor go the spoils as the winner progresses into the Semi-Finals and the losing team’s season will end.
Our Saints finished the regular season in sixth place, meaning that if the Club was to go on and reach our goals it would be history as no team has ever won the Super League competition from that position. It is a challenge that Wellens’ men are excited for now we are at the business end of the campaign.
A number of senior players now back available for match selection, with some battle-hardening minutes in the bank, especially following last week’s play-offs-like game away against Leigh. The Saints will be looking to shake off that tight defeat and learn lessons from the fixture now that it is do-or-die rugby.
Warrington finished the season in third place after pushing for a top two finish, but the Wolves have had a renaissance of form under coach Sam Burges and will be very tough opposition on their own turf. The Saints will be fighting to get the win over a team that has got the win in both the league and the Cup so far in 2024.
Last season the Red V and Wire met at this stage of the Play-Offs but with the roles as host reversed. In James Roby’s final home match as a St.Helens player he led our team to a 16-8 victory. Can we do it again this year but away from home?
Over 2,100 of the Saints faithful already have their tickets and will be in that number! Join us as we look to win and get 80 minutes from Old Trafford!
Paul Wellens makes just one change to the squad from last week’s final regular round of the 2024 Betfred Super League season with Moses Mbye stepping out of the squad after picking up a calf injury during the warm-up at Leigh Sports Village.
Young Saint Jonny Vaughan is the player coming into the squad, looking to keep making his mark in his debut season.
