Saints Academy captain George Whitby following the Academy Grand Final gives his reaction, and talks about a whirlwind season.
The 18-year-old halfback has had a season to remember not only in our Under 18s ranks, but also with both our Reserves and First Team too.
Whitby led out the Saints in the Academy Championship finale and came desperately close to being the man to lift the trophy. In an honest assessment the former Blackbrook Royals junior was devastated but wished to concentrate on the positives from a strong and positive season.
Being the skipper has meant the world to George, and impressive performances have seen him move up into the First Team training environment and even make a try-scoring Super League debut. Alongside winning the Reserves Grand Final and captaining the England Academy team against France, Whitby can hold his head high for all his efforts so far in 2024.
Now with the Play-Offs for the First Team underway, George will play his part too with the squad, pushing to get that second senior Saints match appearance.
In November, he will commence his first full-time pre-season as a First Team player, and already he is excited for the challenge.
