Matty Smith wins BWSL Coach of the Year award

St.Helens Women Head Coach Matty Smith has won the 2024 Betfred Women’s Super League Coach of the Year award at the Rugby League Awards!

Smith’s Saints side won 13 of their 14 Betfred Women’s Super League regular season games in 2024, as well as a playoff victory over Wigan Warriors at the Totally Wicked Stadium. The Red V sadly fell just short in the Grand Final though, losing to York Valkyrie on Sunday.

Smith’s Saints did reclaim the Challenge Cup though for the fourth successive season. A 0-22 victory over Leeds Rhinos in the Final saw the Red V claim the first piece of silverware on offer in 2024, at Wembley Stadium.

By finishing top of the league table and losing only one regular league match all season, Saints Women added the League Leaders’ Shield later on in the year.

It’s Smith’s second year in charge of the Saints Women, a role he carries alongside being Assistant Coach with the First Team side. He was nominated for the same award last year, but has deservedly picked the accolade up this year.

Congratulations to Matty!
