Four St.Helens players named for second Samoa Test

Saints players Daryl Clark, Morgan Knowles, Matty Lees and Jack Welsby have been named in England's 19-man squad for this Saturday's match against Samoa, the second of a two-match Test Series.

It is an England double header at AMT Headingley in Leeds with the Men and Women’s team both in action, starting with England Women facing Wales Women at 12pm and then England Men face Samoa at 2:30pm.

Following the first Test last Sunday in Wigan, England hold a 1-0 lead over Samoa winning 34-18, and the Head Coach Shaun Wane has made two changes to the squad he named for that victory.

Clark, Lees and Welsby all started in England’s match day squad for the first Test, whilst Knowles came off the bench.

Former Saint now Wigan player Luke Thompson, having served a match suspension, is called into the team, as is Liam Marshall following an injury to Dom Young picked up last Sunday.

Wane said: “I’ve had to make a few changes to my 19 following on from last weekend’s victory and that is why having a strong squad is so important. I’m confident with the lads I have had to bring in.

“Our goal was always to win this series 2-0 and we have put ourselves in the position to achieve that on Saturday. We know Samoa will be better – but so will we.

“We’re all looking forward to getting back to Headingley, where we had great support when we completed a 3-0 series win against Tonga last year.”
