Not one to really watch rugby league when he grew up, he was more of a football fan, at the age of seven Alfie found himself playing at community club Rylands Sharks and he knew he was a better rugby player than a footballer.
He would eventually be spotted by Saints scouts and recruited to join our club from the age of fourteen in our Scholarship programme.
Speaking glowingly about becoming a better player, as well as a better young man off the field, with St.Helens’ youth development, Sinclair told saintsrlfc.com: “It has been so good coming through, the coaches and staff have all made be a better athlete and now I want to keep getting better.”
At our End of Season Awards night in October, the 20-year-old prop forward was honoured to be given the Reserves Player of the Year accolade, after putting in some brilliant forward performances throughout the title-winning season.
Now in the senior side, Sinclair has a number of familiar faces to work full time with, young men he played with at 16s, 18s and Reserves levels.
“I think that’s a good thing about this year, there’s a lot of us that have all come through on the same path. We all want the best for each other, and we’ll all push each other – 100%.”
2024 was a year in the Reserves and getting chances on loan with League One outfit North Wales Crusaders for Alfie. Making his professional bow meant the world to him, but now he’s eager to get his first Super League match under his belt.
“I think the year was just a chance to prove myself, to prove that I can go up there with the top squad, and now I’m in it I still need to prove it too.
“I played two games with North Wales, we won one and lost one, but it was good experience to be honest and to play my first professional game that was class. I had loads of my family there for it, so yeah, that was really good.
“If I could debut for Saints, it would mean everything, to be honest. It’s like everything I’ve ever worked towards.”
