Women’s Challenge Cup format confirmed for 2025

Details for the 2025 Betfred Women's Challenge Cup have now been confirmed, with the Group Stage draw kicking off the competition in April.

St.Helens Women will seek to continue making history as the current holders of the prestigious trophy for four years straight, aiming to make it five.

Back in June 2024, the Saints made it back-to-back victories at Wembley Stadium over Leeds Rhinos to retain the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup. Heading into the 2025 season, the Red V know once again every other team will be gunning to end the winning run and our club’s hold on the trophy.

All eight Betfred Women’s Super League teams and four clubs from the Northern Championship will compete to reach the 2025 Women’s Challenge Cup Final on Saturday, 7th June at Wembley Stadium.

The 12 teams will be drawn into four groups of three, and as in previous years the draw will be sedded with one of last season’s top four teams – St.Helens, Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors and York Valkyrie – in each group alongside two teams selected from the remaining eight sides.

The group stage draw will take place next Tuesday evening (14 January, 6.30pm), with live coverage on BBC red button, iPlayer and website.

New promoted to the BWSL Leigh Leopards will be in the group of eight teams in Pool One alongside Barrow Raiders, Huddersfield Giants, Warrington Wolves and the four Northern Championship teams; Featherstone Rovers, Sheffield Eagles, London Broncos and Cardiff Demons. The latter two having been given permission to play in the “Northern” competition to secure higher quality competition on a regular basis.

The three rounds of the Group Stage are scheduled to take place over the weekend of the 5th & 6th, 12th & 13th, and 19th & 20th of April.

The winners and runners up of each group will then progress to the Quarter-Finals in the final weekend of April (26th & 27th), followed by a Semi-Final double-header weekend with the Men’s competition on the 10 & 11th of May.

The 2025 Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup is part of a Finals Day triple-header at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, 7th June, with the finals of the Betfred Men’s Challenge Cup and the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup.
