St.Helens Reserves Head Coach Ian Talbot has announced his 19-man squad that will be taking on The British Army Rugby League Team on Wednesday, 29th January.
Taking place in London at the prestigious and historic venue that is the Honourable Artillery Company (HAC), our young Saints outfit will be taking on the British Army 1st XIII at 2pm.
It is an outstanding opportunity for our players to experience a longer distance away day fixture that is outside the traditional heartlands of rugby league, and test themselves against some of the Army’s very best players.
Talbot has included five of our younger First Team men in his squad that will travel down to London; Leon Cowen, Jake Davies, Cole Marsh, Ciaran Nolan and Alfie Sinclair. They join our Reserves and Academy players for the exciting fixture.
This match is part of the Club’s ongoing working relationship with British Army Rugby League, and is a charitable and engagement event between the military and rugby league, with two matches to be played on the day, followed by a formal reception in the evening; a showcase of the sport of Rugby League in the Capital.
Supporters will be able to attend and watch both matches for free, whilst the Charity Dinner is a ticket-only occasion – you can secure your tickets for the evening here!
This event will be raising money for two charitable causes; the Royal British Legion (RBL) and the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association.
The RBL is the country’s largest Armed Forces charity and supports serving and ex-serving personnel and their families. The MND Association is a charity very close to the rugby league community’s heart with the heroic fundraising and awareness efforts of Rob Burrow, and the MNDA funds research, care improvement, and support for people with MND and their families.
First up in the double-header of match action on the day will be The Royal Artillery versus The Infantry in The 1925 Cup with kick-off scheduled for 12pm, followed by the Saints taking on the Army at 2pm.
The Charity Dinner in support of the RLB and MNDA will include a three-course meal with canapes, a charitable auction, and an incredible on-stage panel. With Saints legend Paul Sculthorpe as compere, James Roby, Jodie Cunningham, Martin Offiah, and Jamie Jones-Buchanan, all legends of our sport, will be at the Honourable Artillery Company to share stories of their careers.
A perfect evening of networking away as organizations from both military and sporting environments can meet and celebrate Rugby League in our Capital, at one of the oldest military organizations in the world – the HAC.
