Noah Stephens agrees new 2028 deal with Saints

St.Helens R.F.C. is delighted to confirm that Noah Stephens, one of Betfred Super League’s most promising front-rowers, will remain a Saint until at least the end of the 2028 season after agreeing to a new four-year contract!

Noah Stephens is proudly sponsored by RedVee.net.

The 20-year-old prop is a proud product of the world-renowned Saints Academy, having joined the Club when he was just 15.

Noah was spotted playing at local community team Pilkington Recs, having only begun playing rugby league as a teenager. Adapting to the sport strongly he was seen as a rising talent with St.Helens quick to snap him up to our Scholarship programme once scouted.

Continuing his development, Stephens earned his place as an Under 18 Saint, and in his two seasons in the Academy he showed signs of being a future bright talent. Selection for Lancashire in the Academy Origin series further highlighted him as one to watch out for in the future.

Noah’s bulldozing and bursting runs proved to be important in the Red V’s Academy Championship winning campaign in 2023. He finished that year by putting pen to paper on his first senior contract to become a First Team St.Helens player.

In May 2024, the Crosby-born prop was given his chance to make his Super League and official St.Helens debut, away at Castleford Tigers. Refusing to take a backward step, Stephens put on an assured display, proving he could cut it at the top level, and he has never looked back, making a further 13 appearances in his debut campaign.

As our team battled with injuries, young talents such as Noah were staking their claim in Paul Wellens’ side. Stephens got to experience tough battles against highly experienced opposition forwards and competed fantastically, playing beyond his age.

As we head into the 2025 Rugby League season, Stephens continues his development with the confidence that the Club backs him as an important member of our squad in the years to come.

Noah Stephens shared his joy at staying a Saint until 2028, and said to saintsrlfc.com: “I’m very, very happy! When I was younger I wouldn’t have ever thought I’d be here doing this, but I’m here to do my best; to make the most out of this opportunity I’ve been given, to make the fans happy who come and watch us every week, and to enjoy it.

“Luckily I’m surrounded by a lot of people who have been doing this for their whole life and if you can absorb that knowledge that they have, then it will only kick you on further.”

With fantastic, international-class mentors to play alongside, Stephens has been relishing every opportunity to gain experience and grow as an aspiring young rugby league player.

“In my position, Big Al [Alex Walmsley] will after pretty much every session have something he can help me with. I’m always open to taking that knowledge from him, who wouldn’t when he’s been so dominant in his position? And we have leaders in the team like Jonny [Lomax], there’s loads more people as well, who tell you more about how to act as a bloke in the game.”

As a proud product of the Saints Academy, Stephens becomes the latest youngster to sign a longer-term deal with St.Helens, following the likes of George Delaney whose contract extension was confirmed in January. Noah is pleased to have many of his peers who have taken the same pathway as him.

“I’m playing with people I’ve played with since Scholarship and having those lads helps, not only because they are all really good players, but behind the scenes, you have your mates there. When you’re in the thick of it on Formby Beach, look to your left or right it’s your mate who has been there with you since the start.”

In an emphatic closing message to the Saints faithful, Noah Stephens simply said this: “I’m here for the long run.”

St.Helens Head Coach Paul Wellens commented: “We are really pleased with Noah, in how he had adjusted to full-time rugby league and the impact he brings out on the field when he has had opportunities, and we only see that impact growing.

“He has the likes of Matty Lees or Alex Walmsley there to lean for advice to improve his game. Whilst we try to help as coaches sometimes the best messages can come from the players around you who are experiencing the same things.

“Noah has to continue working as hard as he has and keep applying himself in the manner he has in recent years because he is certainly a player that we see being a long-term fixture at this club. He has already shown he is up for the challenge.

“We hope we at Saints can see him continue to develop, not just this year, but beyond with the extension of his new contract.”
