Saints squad to face West Hull in the Cup

St.Helens Head Coach Paul Wellens has named his 21-man squad for this Saturday’s Betfred Challenge Cup Third Round fixture against West Hull ARLFC, taking place at Sewell Group Craven Park at 2pm.

St.Helens First Team 21-man squad announcement is sponsored by St Helens Flooring.

Saturday’s match is the Saints’ first competitive fixture of the 2025 Rugby League season and will be a small bit of history. St.Helens will be facing an amateur opposition in a competitive game for the first time since September 1969 when the Saints beat Maryport in the Lancashire Cup.

Each Super League club entered our sport’s oldest knockout competition a round earlier in 2025, coming through a seeded draw that guaranteed all twelve top-flight teams would be drawn an away fixture.

One of the most consistent sides in the National Conference League (NCL), West Hull progressed to this stage of the Challenge Cup with a big home victory over Edinburgh Eagles 90-0, followed by an away day victory over Hunslet ARLFC, the reigning NCL Champions.

This has setup a marquee match for West Hull against the 13-times Challenge Cup winning St.Helens this Saturday afternoon. To ensure plenty of supporters of both teams will be able to attend, Hull KR’s home ground Sewell Group Craven Park will host the event.

Over 400 Saints supporters have their tickets for this match, and if you want to be in that number then CLICK HERE for all the Ticketing Information.

📋 SQUAD NEWS

Head Coach Wellens names a 21-man squad with a mix of experience and youth, with a selection of our senior Saints complemented by our younger talent looking to make their mark.

New recruits for 2025 Tristan Sailor and Lewis Murphy are in the declaration, whilst young guns Ciaran Nolan, Alfie Sinclair, Jake Davies, and Cole Marsh are all selected too after impressing in The Captial Challenge victory over Army Rugby League last week.

Fresh off the news that he has put pen to paper on a new four-year deal keeping him a Saint until 2028, Owen Dagnall could be in line to make his first competitive St.Helens appearance too.

If selected to play; Sailor, Murphy, Dagnall, Nolan, Sinclair, J. Davies, and Marsh would make their first official St.Helens appearance, earning them their very own Heritage Number. In instances where more than one player debuts for St.Helens in the same match then Heritage Numbers are assigned by position order*.
