Next Up: Saints go to The Jungle

St.Helens take on Castleford Tigers at The Jungle on Saturday, 22nd February, with kick-off scheduled for 8pm!

The Saints’ first Super League away day of the season is always one that we know our supporters get excited for!

Games between the St.Helens and Castleford are typically entertaining encounters, with both sides trading a number of wins over the other in recent years. Our biggest meeting of recent times was the 2021 Challenge Cup Final at Wembley Stadium, in which the Red V won to claim our 13th Challenge Cup trophy.

In 2024 though, the Red V and the Tigers met on three occasions, with Saints besting the Tigers on two occasions, once at home and away. Cas earned what might have been their most impressive victory last season in a tight contest at the Totally Wicked Stadium which ended 6-8.

Our last visit to The Jungle was a memorable one, with less than fifteen minutes played the Saints were shown a red card whilst holding a slender 0-4 lead. Captain Jonny Lomax would double that, followed by Cas striking back just before half time getting a try of their own. The second forty minutes was a Red V blitz, nine tries scored with no reply as Paul Wellens’ men ran riot and cruised to a 4-60 victory.

It’s Round 2 of the new league campaign, and the Saints are looking to build into the new year after posting Super League’s widest margin of victory against Salford Red Devils last Saturday night, 82-0. Admittedly, the Red Devils played a squad mostly of Reserves players, so Wellens’ men are ready and raring for a tougher task.

The Tigers less than a week removed from their Challenge Cup exit away at Bradford Bulls galvanised and took Hull KR right to the death last Friday night, being just edged out 19-18 in Golden Park at the Robins’ home. This upcoming match against the Saints will serve as Castleford’s first home match of the season, as well as new Head Coach Danny McGuire’s first competitive home match in charge. Putting it all together, it should be an electric atmosphere over in West Yorkshire!
