😇 ACADEMY SEASON KICK-OFF!
Ahead of the Saints’ Women First Team starting their league campaign, it is the start of the first competitive season for our Women’s Academy team!
Previously, our Under 19s Women side were playing friendly fixtures, however for the first time in 2025 there will be a competitive nature to matches, further enhancing the growth and development of young women’s rugby league players.
Women’s Academy Head Coach Graham Cranny, Assistant Coach of the Women’s First Team, has alongside fellow members of our Women’s youth coaching staff prepped our Under 19 Women’s Saints for a twelve-round season.
It’s an exciting occasion as many of these girls will get to run out on the Totally Wicked Stadium field for the first time and follow in the footsteps of the likes of Women’s First Teamers who are Saints Women’s Academy graduates, players such as; Katie Mottershead, Caitlin Maylor, Erin McDonald, Amy Taylor, Alyx Bridge and Luci McColm.
📰 SQUAD NEWS
Joint Head Coaches Derek Hardman and Craig Richards make just one change to the squad that was announced for the Saints’ victory over York Valkyrie in the Betfred Challenge Cup Semi Final last Sunday afternoon.
Scrum-half Faye Gaskin who came off the field late on in the Semi Final due to a bit hit to her cheek, she is rested for Round One. In comes former Sale Sharks Women’s player Hollie Bawden who joined the Saints back in March and if selected to play would make her official club debut.
Amy Hardcastle, Shona Hoyle and Caitlin Casey could all feature against the team they moved on from to join the Red V in 2025 as well.

Lois Forsell has chosen her 21-woman Leeds Rhinos side which will have Bella Sykes missing due to head injury assessment protocols. Centre Evie Cousins returns though after missing last weekend’s action.
The Rhinos will be stinging after losing out to Wigan on Saturday, however they did show signs of attacking flair in their first real test of the season.
Much like the Saints, the Rhinos did very well in the early matches of the 2025 Women’s Challenge Cup and with much change in their squad and plenty of promotion of their young talents, Leeds will be out to shake off the disappointment of not reaching Wembley.

WEARING THE RED V
The Saints’ 2025 Home Kit will be worn on Sunday afternoon! Taking centre stage, the iconic Saints crest has been transformed into a futuristic holographic badge and is placed in the centre of the shirt for the first time in 16 years.
The shirt has elasticated sleeve cuffs that feature a woven oval SH pattern taken from one of the core elements of the Club crest, with the SH also watermarked into the Red V and on the side panels of the shorts.

For the first time in our history in 2025, the Saints Women will have their own specific kit – a version of the 2025 design but featuring a host of new club partners, which they will wear on gameday, and which is available to order as a replica in all sizes, online via direct order from O’Neills.
