After our supporters vote, you have chosen Owen Dagnall and Caitlin Casey as the winners of St.Helens' Tries of the Month for July 2025!
Our young First Team winger Owen Dagnall has grabbed his chance to play senior rugby with both hands and has managed to get himself for important tries against Leeds twice, both times in victories over the Rhinos.
Dagnall’s try against Leeds at AMT Headingley in July, the only four-pointer of an engrossing defensive game, proved to be vital in our men getting the all important two league points.
The ball was worked out to Tristan Sailor on the left edge, he went between some sliding Leeds defenders and passed it to Owen in the gap. Owen still had a lot to do with not a lot of room, he shook off a tackle attempt off Harry Newman and then he pirouetted around Lachie Miller to reach out and ground the ball for a brilliant try.
It means that Dags have earned back-to-back Try of the Month Awards after winning June’s vote too!
Try of the Month for July 2025 for the St.Helens Women’s team goes to Caitlin Casey for her late leveller away against Leeds Rhinos!
Scoring against your former club at the ground will no doubt be memorable, but Casey’s effort earned the Red V a chance to snatch the win at AMT Headingley Stadium too.
In the 78th minute the S-Women were trailing by four points against Leeds. Faye Gaskin kicked up a high bomb which the Rhinos knocked on into Luci McColm’s hands near the middle of the field. McColm was stopped inches off the line, but with gaps on the right side she got up and played the ball, Katie Mottershead passed to Naomi Williams, she fired a pass out to Jodie Cunningham who fed it to Caitlin on the wing to dive in and score!
A remarkable finish, and a credit to Casey who sensed opportunity when the ball was first knocked on and ran to the right edge of the field where those gaps would prove to be decisive!
Faye Gaskin then from the touchline added the conversion with no time left on the clock to retain the Saints’ unbeaten run in the 2025 Betfred Women’s Super League – but without Casey’s try, she would not have got that game-winning kick.
Well done Caitlin, keep up the great work in your first season in the Red V!
