St.Helens' young outside back Owen Dagnall is on the six-man shortlist for the Glen's Vodka Player of the Month for July 2025.
Being included in this monthly shortlist is recognition of the incredible start to life in Super League that the Saints Academy graduate has made. In his first eight top-flight matches, Dagnall has managed to score seven tries.
Focusing on last month though, Owen featured in all three of St.Helens’ Super League fixtures and proved to be integral in one of them as we got the win.
First up in July, the Red V took on Hull FC at the MKM Stadium, winning 6-13 and whilst Owen did not score in the game, after returning to the field following a passed HIA in the second half he rose highest to a dangerous Hull bomb to diffuse the hosts’ threat.
Our second match of the month was an away visit to AMT Headingley Stadium against Leeds Rhinos. The day was an absolutely sweltering one due to the heat, and our S-Men put on one of the most memorable defensive performances to lock out Leeds and win 0-6. Four of those six points were scored by Dagnall.
The ball was worked out to Tristan Sailor on the left edge, he went between some sliding Leeds defenders and passed it to Owen in the gap. Owen still had a lot to do with not a lot of room, he shook off a tackle attempt off Harry Newman and then he pirouetted around Lachie Miller to reach out and ground the ball for a brilliant, match-winning try!
