The Saints boss saw plenty of positives in Saints’ dominant win, sharing his praise for his men, particularly the likes of Jack Welsby, Joe Batchelor and James Bell, all of whom marked their First Team returns from injury.
Welsby’s inclusion raised some eyebrows, with the star fullback named on the bench, however, Wellens reveals that his plan was to ensure the England #1 would be calmly introduced after shaving off around five weeks off his expected return time.
With Hull FC to come on Friday night, and a tight five-day turnaround, he also shared why he rotated his pack the way he did.
Wellens was also full of praise for Morgan Knowles, and admitted that on current form he believes that the Red V loose-forward is the best player in the competition.
