Saints TV: Matty Lees on “whirlwind” week ahead of Hull KR Semi-Final clash

Ahead of our highly anticipated Semi-Final clash with Hull KR over in Yorkshire, we caught up with new father, Matty Lees.

Leaving the pitch just before half time in our Eliminator Play-Off game against the Leeds Rhinos, and walking across the pitch at half time, Matty had just been informed that he needed to get back to St. Helens, as his wife had gone into labour. He spoke about how he felt in the build up to the game knowing that was a possibility, and how he was listening to the game on the radio as he travelled.

Matty said he felt bad leaving the team in the position he did, but said the team had already told him they’d have his back and they did that night in “unbelievable” circumstances.

Moving on to the game, Matty said that in the camp, the biggest thing the team has taken from that game is belief. He said that until the game is done, there’s always an opportunity, and that’s what we’ll be taking into tomorrow evening’s clash.

Hull KR have qaulity all the way through their team, with the pack Matty will be up against, all the way to the outside backs, and Matty said they’re number one for a reason, and we know it’ll be a tough game, but we’re excited to go there and rip into it.
