Curtis Sironen signs Saints extension to 2027

St.Helens R.F.C. is thrilled to announce that towering back-rower Curtis Sironen has signed a new contract extension, keeping him in the Red V until at least the end of the 2027 season!

Curtis Sironen is proudly sponsored by Athena Forte.

The six-foot-four Australian joined St.Helens ahead of the 2022 campaign and will head into his fifth and sixth seasons with the Club in 2026 and 2027.

A physical and fearsome forward, Sironen is aggressive on both sides of the ball. In his first year as a Saint, he was part of the team that secured a fourth successive Super League title at Old Trafford in the 2022 Grand Final.

Sironen was integral to St.Helens’ historic 2023 World Club Challenge victory over Penrith Panthers in Australia, setting up the opening score and making a crucial turnover tackle before the game-winning set.

Over the past two seasons, Sironen has stepped up into the leadership group and established himself as one of Super League’s most imposing back-row talents. To date, he has featured in 90 matches, scoring 15 tries for a total of 60 points.

Curtis Sironen shared his joy about the extension and told saintsrlfc.com: “Being a Saint reignited my love for rugby league again, and being here I’ve met great people, made lifelong friends, and even started my family.

“I am over the moon to still be part of this great club. We want to get back to winning ways. I also want to help the younger boys coming through and leave my mark on my career here.”

Curtis is closing in on a century of match appearances for the Club, and he’s eager to reach that milestone quickly.

“I want to get to 100 games for the Club as soon as I can. Hopefully, a strong pre-season will set me up for it, and I hit the ground running. I want to build on last year and find ways to keep getting better.”

The Saints will be working under new Head Coach Paul Rowley from the 2026 season. Having come up against Rowley’s Salford side with the Saints, Sironen is relishing the chance to work under the new boss.

“It’s always exciting when you have a new coach because it’s a fresh start for everyone. You have to go and earn your stripes again, and that’s a good thing.

“Paul plays an attacking brand of rugby, and I’m looking forward to meeting and working with him, as well as seeing what new ideas he has, and how he wants me to go about my game.”

Humbled by the support he has received during his first four seasons, Curtis Sironen expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Saints’ supporters.

“I’ll never forget my first game and hearing the Saints crowd with their chants and songs; it sent shivers down my spine. When we’ve won trophies, I’ve seen what it’s done to the town and how it comes alive, and that’s what makes this club so special.

“I’ve been in Australia in the off-season and keep saying ‘When I go home…,’ meaning St.Helens because it is home for me now.

“I’m excited for the new chapter. We need the fans behind us, and we’ll do all we can to make them proud.”
