Ciaran Nolan has confirmed he is to step down from playing Rugby League to pursue a new career.
The 20-year-old hooker has successfully secured a new role in the engineering field and will now step away from the sport. Ciaran does so with the best wishes of everyone at St.Helens R.F.C.
It brings an end to a six-year association with the Saints, after the young hooker first joined the Club as a Scholarship player at the age of 14, having been spotted at community club Rylands Sharks.
Progressing through to our Under-18s Academy side, Nolan played his part in the Saints Academy’s title-winning season in 2023. He then stepped up into the Reserves ranks and was our starting number nine for the Red V’s Reserves Grand Final victory over Wigan in 2024.
For the 2025 season, Ciaran was promoted into the St.Helens First Team squad. An early injury in the year restricted his game time, but during the summer he returned to the field with our Reserves side. Then, in August, he joined Salford Red Devils on loan and made his Super League debut against Hull FC at the MKM Stadium.
Speaking about his decision to change career paths, Ciaran Nolan told saintsrlfc.com: “I’m very grateful to have been given the opportunity to represent this Club over the last six years.
“I would like to thank all the staff who have supported me during my journey throughout the system and into the First Team, as well as every team-mate that I’ve taken to the field with.
“I’ve made some incredible memories and bonds during my time here, and have worn the jersey with both pride and privilege. Thank you for everything.”
