Saints TV: Rowley previews Round 1 at Warrington

Head Coach Paul Rowley speaks to the press ahead of St.Helens’ first match of the 2026 Betfred Super League season.

The Saints take on Warrington Wolves this Friday night at the Halliwell Jones Stadium to begin the new league campaign, in what promises to be a fiery local derby.

With the Wolves to play away, two trips to France and an away Challenge Cup Fourth Round tie all scheduled within the opening weeks of the season, the Saints boss is excited for himself and his squad to get started.

Rowley reaffirmed the togetherness within his squad, with everyone showing a willingness to learn and improve.

Looking ahead to Warrington, Rowley knows their spine is strong, with a player he has previously coached in Marc Sneyd guiding the side around the park, and believes the hype surrounding the fixture has whetted the appetite for the new season to get underway.

Confirming the unfortunate news that captain Matty Lees suffered a knee injury in the game against Workington, which will rule him out for at least seven weeks, Rowley stated that St.Helens’ number 10 will not require surgery. He was steadfast in his belief in the squad and insisted they will not sulk over the setback.
