St.Helens R.F.C. announces that its CEO, Mike Rush, has stepped down after 27 years at the Club, the last 13 of which he has served as CEO.
The search for a new CEO will begin immediately. In the interim, Club Chairman Eamonn McManus will act as CEO with support as necessary from the Club’s Board of Directors.
Club Chairman Eamonn McManus stated: “Mike has been with our club throughout his entire professional career and has devoted his life to it.
“He was previously our Head of Youth, Head of Performance, Assistant Coach, Head Coach and General Manager before taking over as CEO 13 years ago. During that period, the Saints have experienced unparalleled success, and Mike has played a big part in it at every level.
“He is first and foremost a passionate Saints fan, and that drive and devotion has been evident.
“He has effectively devoted his life to the Saints, and we will always owe him a debt of gratitude for his efforts and sacrifices.
“Mike and his family have our very best wishes for the future, and he will always receive the warmest of welcomes at the Saints.”
Mike Rush commented: “After 27 incredible years at this club, I have made the decision to step down as Chief Executive Officer.
“This has been the hardest decision I have ever taken. The Club has been such a huge part of my life for nearly three decades, but I believe now is the right time to step aside.
“I want to thank everyone at the Club: past and present staff, colleagues across every department, and the many coaches I have had the privilege of working alongside. I have built some very special relationships over the years, friendships that I continue to value and will always cherish. To the players, many of whom I have watched grow from young boys into outstanding professionals and even better men, it has been an honour to be part of your journey.
“I am incredibly proud to have started the Academy tour to Australia, which has now taken place eight times and provided more than 200 young players with the trip of a lifetime, raising over £1 million to make those experiences possible.
“During my time at the Club, I was fortunate to be part of significant success as a member of the coaching staff, one Grand Final victory, five Grand Final appearances, three Challenge Cup wins and a World Club Challenge triumph; and as CEO, five Grand Final wins, one Challenge Cup and another World Club Challenge achievements that belong to the players, staff and supporters as much as anyone.
“To the Board, and in particular Eamonn, who has been at the helm throughout my entire career here, thank you for your leadership, support and trust over so many years. I am deeply grateful for the opportunities I have been given.
“A special word of thanks must go to the volunteers. The Club’s success has been built on the commitment, passion and selflessness of so many people who give their time quietly and consistently. You have played an extraordinary role not only in my career, but in everything this club stands for.
“To our commercial partners, thank you for your belief, loyalty and investment in the Club. Your support has been vital to our growth and success both on and off the field.
“And to our loyal supporters, thank you for the passion and unwavering backing you have given throughout this journey, none more so than in Penrith in 2023, where your presence and pride embodied everything special about this club.
“Life in professional sport is 24/7. It is relentless, demanding and all-consuming. After 27 years, I am both emotionally and physically exhausted. I have sacrificed a great deal over that period, as has my family, and I feel it is time to put them and myself first as I step away.
“Finally, to my amazing family and friends, thank you for 27 years of unwavering support. None of this would have been possible without you. You have carried me through the highs and the challenges, and I will always be grateful.
“This club will always hold a special place in my heart. It has shaped my life in ways I could never have imagined.”
